Yes we can

Dear Niko,
Something truely remarkable happened tonight. I believe the world will be a better place for you as a result. You don’t understand yet, but you will.Â
Yes, it is a great historical moment and I supported it, but not without reservations (which were about inexperience and not about vision). Just in case we have elected another Jimmy Carter, I want you to know, Niko, that I had my eye on history, just as I did when Congress and the President, without a thought of Vietnam, declared war on Iraq. As they used to sing in the 1960’s, “When will they ever learn?”
I’ve never really understood the experience argument. I’m not saying experience isn’t one trait to be considered, but it is just one of many. Chaney and Rumsfeld both have a great deal of experience and yet managed to do more damage to this country than anybody has in a long time.
I work at one of the most successful companies in history. It was built by two college students with no experience. At the same time we watch financial institutions and car companies implode, run by very experienced people.
Betting on experience too often just results in the status quo or worse. Betting on vision and leadership often fails, but when it is successful, great things happen. I would rather fail 1000 times trying to be great, than be successful 1000 times at being mediocre.
Amen.
