Costa Rica
September 22nd, 2008 by Scott
We headed out to Costa Rica with Mark, Mand, and Elsie in early September. As usual, Mandy did a much better job blogging about it.
Travel is definitely getting easier (we have definitely moved forward in the travel mobility-video gap). Niko will watch Finding Nemo pretty much indefinitely so at this point our sanity is defined by battery life. We go to war with a DVD player, mac book, and two iPhones so we generally can keep him distracted for all but take-off and landing. I can’t wait until he is old enough that I can say things like, “You know, when we were young we didn’t have movies OR planes. You should really appreciate what you have.” I’ll be sure to get the eye rolling on video.
One leg of the journey had us on a small Cessna to get from San Jose to the central west coast. I expected Niko to excited about this flight given we were sitting basically in the cockpit. Instead he went to sleep for the entire flight. I already don’t understand the kid and he isn’t even a teenager yet.
It was a wonderful vacation of beach, pool, food, and rest. So much rest I set a record for longest I have not checked email (previously measured in hours). Niko and Elsie seem to be really bonding and they are fun to watch together. I’m looking forward to the vacation when I can teach them both to surf.
Wow, Julie, that is some colorful dress!
Julie and Scott,
You’re right! Mandy did an amazing job on her blog. Niko and Elsie make a cute pair and automatic vacation friends. Now, that’s how to relax! There is a picture of Niko and Elsie in front of a bed and Niko has a pacifier in his mouth. Except for the pacifier, it is a spitting image of Jon. I loved the picture on Mandy’s site of Niko surfing. Can I come when lessons are being given? I’ve always wanted to learn to surf.
Anyway, I’m really writting bacause I wanted to wish Niko a very happy birthday! I knew the day was coming and I knew what I was going to do, but, somehow, I screamed out last night, “oh no, tomorrow is Niko’s birthday.” So, it’s in the mail as you read this. A little something for the traveler! God bless you all, we so love your blogs!
Love,
Jacqui and Rick

I’ve been rereading this blog (I know, get a life!) and it came to my attention that you can’t truthfully say they didn’t have planes when you were young. Your parents may not have chosen to use them or the flights weren’t inexpensive or they may not have flown close to where you wanted to be, but planes were there.
Actually, I was just being dramatic. My parents had me on a plane at birth. Rarely a month went by we weren’t flying somewhere.
