First word! Elephant!

Elephant noise, that is. I suppose this probably comes down to how you define “word.” We don’t actually know what the elephant is saying, so who are we to say it isn’t a word?

Anne’s first word was “quack-quack.” Since she was pointing to a stuffed duck in the supermarket at the time, I counted it as a word and not an animal sound.
I can’t remember what Mary said first (the curse of being a second child) but I’ll never forget the day she said,”Buzzzz,” and picked up a wasp that was crawling on the floor of the library. Her father is allergic to stings and I was too busy saying, “Put it down” and forcing her fingers apart to be able to appreciate how well she used a “word.”
